Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, located in the Caribbean region, is an island country. It is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations and CARICOM. The economy of Saint Vincent mainly relies on agriculture. Bananas are by far the most important agricultural product and employ more than 50% of the workforce. Other main crops are sweet potatoes, plantains, yams, coconuts and dasheens and eddoes (types of taro). Fishing industry is a growing industry and the main catches are lobster, conch, tuna and swordfish and they are used for local consumption as well as export. Main industries are food processing, cement, furniture, clothing and starch. |
